私の周りにはどうしてか、中国に良いイメージを持っている人はあまりいなかった。イギリスで出会った香港人の友達がよい例だ。いつも優しくて、思いやりがある彼が中国のこととなると顔をしかめて、文句を言っていた。二年ほど前に北京に行った両親もあまりいい思い出がなかったようで、二回三回と同じ所を旅する彼らももう行かないと言っていた。中国餃子事件やサイゼリヤのピザ問題、チベットの問題など社会でも去年は中国に対してあまり良くない報道が続いた。それでも私は中国に悪いイメージを持てなかった。自分で実際に見て、体験しないと納得しないという頑固な性格のせいであろう。そのため上海研修旅行の話を聞いた時、これは自分の目で確かめる良い機会だと思った。実際参加してよかったし、上海は私には悪い所ではなかった。今まで訪れた地域と同じように、その土地のやり方を知り、受け入れたら困ることは何もないし、日本とやっていることが似ている所もあった。
行く前は中国人は列に並ばないし、大声で文句をよくいっていると聞いた。実際は、そんなことはなく、一週間の滞在中順番を無視していたのを見たのは一度だけだった。日本でも順番を守らない人は時々いるので、わざわざ言うほどのことでもないと思った。また地下鉄では、降りる人を待ってから乗車するようにという表示があった。日本では常識だが、上海でも常識になりつつあるのだと思う。なぜなら見たところ利用者はその表示を守っていた。大声での文句については、言っている人を何回か見たがみんな一通り言うと気がすんだのか、おとなしくなる。言いたいんやなという感じで聞いていれば、なんてことないことだった。私には中国を悪くいう点は見られなかった。
観光客にはぼったくってるという声もよく聞いたがそれをしているのは何も中国だけではない。そのうえ値切ればそれなりの値段になる。これがここでの商売の仕方なんやなと知っていれば値切ればしまいのことである。そのうちに値切り交渉自体が旅の楽しみになった。
学校ではみんなフレンドリーだったし、先生は根気よく教えてくれた。机には落書きがあったり、机の中に教科書を詰め込んでいたりと日本の学校と大して変わりはなかった。みんなやることはさほど変わらないのだと思った。
日本で聞くほども悪いことはなかったし、似ている所も多かった。たとえ違う点があっても、これがここでのやり方だと思えば中国に対して悪いイメージを持つ理由など一つもなかった。むしろ出会った上海の人々は親切で好感を持った。私が中国語を話せないために、あまりホストマザーとは話せなかったりと残念なこともあったので、これを機に中国語の勉強をまたしたい。今回お世話になった人にはとても感謝しているし、この研修に参加できて自分はとても幸運だと思う。
○2年生 女子
Have you ever visited Shanghai? I had an opportunity to go to Shanghai for one week during winter break. During my stay, I had made countless memories with a lot of people from Shanghai and with people whom I haven’t talk to in school. In this essay, I’d like to share with you some of the things we did in Shanghai and my impression of it.
On the day I reached Shanghai, I had to stay for two days with my host family. At first, I was nervous because the host mother couldn’t speak Japanese. But luckily, the daughter was able to speak Japanese and so I was able to communicate with her. I was surprised that she can speak Japanese fluently, even though she lived in Shanghai all her life.
During the second day in home stay, I was able to go shopping with my host family and her friend. I forgot where I went but it was a big shopping mall. I had never seen such a big shopping mall and I was very surprised. While I was there, I decided to buy a necklace for a friend and it costed 90 gen. Since the host family told me that it was so expensive, I told the worker to make it cheaper. After 10 minutes, the worker lowered the price to 30 gen. I was very happy that I was able to lower the price.
I was very tired about walking all day and soon it was the next day. The next few days, it was the same pattern and I had classes in the morning and shopping in the afternoon. I really enjoyed learning Chinese and about its culture. While taking classes with Natsume, Asuka, and Yui, I was able to get along with them. Before the trip, I had only known Natsume and so I was nervous whether I’ll get along with Yui and Asuka I am glad that I got along with them and that made learning Chinese more fun.
Just like the classes, going places made me learn more about China. The things that changed my impression about China are about food. Before going to China, I was very nervous about what I’ll eat during my days in Shanghai. Right now, there are food problems in China and I had read and heard lot f news about it. I was very scared of what I’ll eat but from what I ate during my stay in Shanghai, I completely forgot about the food problem because it was so good. Also, what also changed me is about taking care of your things. Since there are a lot of people wherever you go, I heard that it’s easy for people to take some ones things. I had never taken seriously about taking care of my things but I started to after my home stay. During home stay, I was told many times to look after your money and passport because it’ll easily get stolen. Luckily for all of us who went to Shanghai, none of our stuff was stolen.
In conclusion, I’d like to thank Shogi-Sensei and Imaki-Sensei for taking us to this trip. I learned so much about China and I’ll make countless memories during the trip. Also, I’d like to thank Yui, Asuka, and Natusme for making the trip fun. I really enjoyed it because you guys were there. Last, I’d like to thank the teachers, the host family, and everyone whom I have not mentioned for letting us learn a lot about China. Thank you.
