<Osaka YMCA Interntaional High School>
This year's conference was conducted for 3 days and included more than 340 students from 13 Japanese high schools, simulating the workings of the General Assembly with the agenda item being Protecting the Rights of Children. The Kansai High School Model United Nations joins over l50 Model United Nations with more than 60,000 junior high, high school and university students currently participating world wide every year.
３日間の会期で行われた今年の会議には、13の高校から340人の生徒が参加し、国連総会と同じ手法で「子どもの権利保護」という議題について話し合いました。世界中で現在6万人の高校生、大学生が１５０を越える数のモデル国連を毎年開催していますが、この「関西高校生モデル国連」もその一つです。
The Model United Nations is designed to help participants learn about the international political system, global issues and the forces which determine a nation's foreign policy by simulating the real activities of the United Nations.
モデル国連は、国連の実際の活動と同じ手順で進めることによって、参加者が国際政治の仕組みや国際問題、そしてそれぞれの国で対外政策を決める際に働く力についての理解を助けます。
Through the preparation process participants acquire knowledge about the United Nations, as well as a greater understanding of global issues and the complexities of international systems. Participants must research and study their assigned country's history, culture and foreign policies in order to be able to set position and policy goals for the simulation. By preparing and participating in the Model United Nations students learn the skills of debate and negotiation, caucusing and consensus, persuasive writing and public speaking.
準備のプロセスを経て、参加生徒は国連についての知識を蓄えると同時に国際問題や国際社会の複雑さに関する理解を深めます。生徒たちは自分が受け持つ国の歴史や文化、対外政策について調べ、それぞれの国の国際社会での立ち位置や政策の目的を定めます。また、モデル国連への参加準備を通して議論や交渉、会議の進め方や合意形成の方法、そして説得力のある文章や公での発言について学びます。
